Location, Location, Location {San Antonio Engagement Photography}

Choosing the location for your session doesn't have to be but can be a difficult decision. After booking us for their wedding photography this is one of the first questions most of our couples ask. I wanted to spend a moment to give you some ideas on how to narrow it down.
First- As a couple, what are some of your favorite things to do together?
One couple loved popcorn, so much so that they had a popcorn bar at their reception (btw awesome idea- did you know that there is an actual flavor called "Fruit Loop"?)- an obvious location, a movie theater! Call the manager, make nice nice. Usually if you talk to the right person, explain that you LOVE their theater (maybe exaggerating a little) and ask, if it is possible, maybe right after the showing of a movie while the theater is being cleaned up, if you could steal away 15 minutes or so to snap a few photos- they will help you out.
Second- Think about the mood of your reception?
I want you to think back to movies you've watched (and I know we've all watched the sappy ones where there is a wedding at some point in the plot). Pick one that stands out to you. My personal favorite- the big birthday party at the end of Meet Joe Black- if you haven't seen this movie-- well, you're missing out. I loved the feeling of the party, the big band music, and use of warm lighting (Brad Pitt wasn't so bad either, but I digress.) Oh and if there is an obvious theme, well try to stay true to that.
Third- Think about the background.
Is there something that's sentimental? Where did he propose?
When we photographed Mallory and Jake's engagement session, we stayed true to what the feeling and theme of their reception was:

I hope that this makes it a little easier when you are thinking about locations for your engagement session-- btw, if you would like suggestions on locations, I'd love to give them!

On to Alyse and John!
Considering Alyse's job ( Communications Manager at Downtown Alliance San Antonio) downtown was an obvious spot for our session. Their choice on this location not only made the photographs more meaningful, but it also tells a story about you as a couple. On a side note John and Alyse are getting married tomorrow at the Mcnay, and we couldn't be more excited! We cannot wait to see how stunning they both look! Congrats guys!!!
